Aircraft
Appraisals

Flying is my first love and the expansion from real-estate-only appraising into
aircraft appraisal is a natural one.
I have been a pilot for nearly forty years
and have accumulated upwards of 5,000 flight hours in various types of aircraft
from my initial airplane, an Aeronca
7AC (Champ) through my current airplane, a Piper PA-30 (Twin Comanche). I hold
instructor ratings for instrument and airplane and in May 2002 at the age of
58, earned the ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) Certificate.
Working with several
mechanics, I am hands-on involved in all facets of the maintenance of my
own aircraft from replacement of tires and brakes to engine
replacement and in
some cases, cylinder removal and reinstallation, thus being
more than passingly conversant
with the design, composition and quirks of aircraft. A complete set of tools
is found in my hangar and, with a 1964 vintage aircraft, the tools get plenty
of
use.
I completed my first aircraft appraisal
in 1973 and have made this portion of the appraisal profession an important
part of the company's future by affiliating with the American Society of
Appraisers as a candidate member (pending). The ASA is a multi-disciplined
organization
that includes machinery and technical specialties, into which category aircraft
appraising falls.
I have taken several technical specialties courses as presented
by the ASA including a course directly involved with the appraisal of a transport
category
aircraft.
